Mimi’s book career started when she walked into Audubon Court Books in Fox Point, Wis. to get a part-time job for her teenage son. They walked out with a job for Mom instead, which was a good thing. She started working as a bookseller and created their community events program. It became a beloved second home.
Mimi hosted 200 plus authors, such as John Grisham, Deepak Chopra, and Dave Barry; jazz nights; competitive chess; poetry readings and Sundays of classical music. They were voted “Best Place to Hang Out” by readers of Milwaukee Magazine.
Life’s next big adventure took Mimi to Florida for six years. While writing human interest stories for The Pensacola News Journal, she met some of the fascinating Southern characters that she had always read about as a Yankee. She also wrote book reviews for The PNJ, provided marketing for authors, nonprofits, and a publisher, and subsequently opened a new Barnes & Noble as the Community Relations Manager with the biggest national opening to date at the time.
She decided to further explore the South, big city style, with a move to Atlanta, where Mimi was fortunate to find another second home at Peachtree Publishers in 2001 as the Publicity Manager.
Mimi also earned her APR in 2001. APR stands for “accredited in public relations” by the Public Relations Society of America. Many communicators today work under the mantle of “public relations.” Accredited members go much further. They demonstrate commitment to the communications profession, to their clients, to their company, and to themselves. Earning the APR is open only to seasoned working professionals with a recommended five or more years public relations experience. It’s a challenging process but it is worth it.
In 2007, Mimi started Max Communications, a literary public relations firm, and is the sole proprietor. Since founding Max, our society has evolved into one driven by digital communications, rapidly emerging technologies, and a 24-hour news cycle. But our commitment to personalized service, attention to detail, and plans customized for each book holds to the same high standard. We listen to our authors and their needs.
